With a significant birthday rapidly approaching last year, I decided to get motivated and lose those extra 20 lbs that had been bothering me. Well, after reaching my goal, I now had another problem, the deflated balloon look, jiggling thighs and upper arms! I was about to write it off to "getting older" when I got two unexpected birthday gifts. The first was meeting a neighbor, and now a wonderful friend, named Julia. Her enthusiasm for a fitness class she was taking encouraged me to try it, and where I found my second gift - meeting Laurie! Laurie's love of fitness is contagious; she makes working out fun, never boring or mechanical, with real results. She has been a mentor, cheerleader (when needed) and most of all interested in my personal objectives, as would a really great friend.

For my 43rd birthday I decided to give myself the gift of training for a figure competition. I hired Laurie Delaney to be my
trainer because of her background as a figure and bikini competitor and stellar reputation for getting results. I began training with Laurie on January 10, 2011. We picked the National Physique Committee March 19th bodybuilding show as my first competition, which gave me exactly 10 weeks to become stage ready.
At the start of training I weighed 132.2 pounds, my body fat was 23 percent and my cholesterol level was 219 (as of December 2010). While I had been lifting weights since I was 19 and had been both a competitive distance runner and avid cyclist, I had never been able to get my body fat below 20 percent or attain the balanced, muscular yet feminine physique of my dreams.
Laurie provided me with comprehensive weight lifting, cardiovascular and nutrition plans. I followed them religiously. I worked out with her two days a week and worked out on my own at my local gym the other four days. Because my training volume went up fivefold, it took a little over a month for my body to adjust. Every part of my body was sore!
January 28, just 18 days into training. I weighed 129.2 and my body fat had dropped to 19.8, the lowest it had been since I started getting tested in 2006.
Seeing the results and continuing to work out with Laurie kept me motivated little foil stars marched across my calendar. I got tested again on
February 22. On that day I weighed 124 and my body fat had again dropped to 15.5 percent with a 0.1 gain in lean mass. To get to my 12 percent body fat goal, I
had to drop my weight to 119.1 pounds. I had four weeks to go to competition and was feeling very nervous about getting to my goal weight not to mention baring it all in a bikini in front of 600 people.
I had my cholesterol tested four days before I competed and it had dropped 57 pointsto 162, a direct result of eating clean and working out.
On March 19, I officially became a figure competitor when I stepped on the stage at the Scottish Rite Event Center here in San Diego. Competing was daunting to say the least, but I loved the experience, met a number of wonderful people and was truly inspired by my fellow competitors. While I didn’t place at this highly competitive, professional qualifier show, I attained my goal and came home with the best trophy of all, my new body.
Training for figure competition and choosing Laurie Delaney as my trainer was the very best gift I could have given myself. I have never felt stronger, healthier, more beautiful and confident. For the first time in my life I actually looked forward to shopping for a bikini, which I did the day after my competition.
Laurie provided incredible emotional and mental support, motivated me and held my hand through the whole process. I cannot recommend her highly enough and look forward to continuing to train with her.

Boot Camp...A New Beginning for a Healthy Life. I have always exercised to some degree but without a professional trainer I was not making the most of my time or my money..and then came Laurie
and Boot Camp. I can honestly tell you I feel better and look better, I can see the difference a few months has made in my well being. I realize the signs of aging comes to everyone, me included but I don’t have to feel old or act old...I am merely 82 years YOUNG. I am learning how to stretch properly and to focus on areas in need of improvement, with support from my fellow boot campers. We start early but time really does fly by and before I know it I have found another healthy way to start my day. I can only tell you I have

Hi I am Shari. I'm 54 years old and have managed to gain 40 lbs over the last 10 years. Between a divorce, emotional eating and metabolism changes that come with age, I didn't recognize myself anymore when I looked in the mirror. A lot has changed since I met Laurie in the latter part of July. It started when my friend Patricia talked me into joining her in working out with Laurie. She wanted to lose weight and knew that I did too. I decided to try it and doing so was the best thing I have done for myself in a very long time. Since the end of July I have lost a total of 15 lbs! I can't tell you how miraculous that seems to me because nothing else that I did worked for me. When I tried to work out on my own I'd always stop at the hard parts instead of pushing for a little more. When I tried to diet I'd get frustrated after 2 days and give up. (I also have to admit that I would binge eat at night, non-stop.) Working out with Laurie has completely changed me. I feel like I have my own personal trainer even though I am paying a class rate. She doesn't judge or criticize, she encourages. If she asks for 25 reps and I have to stop at 18 reps and then join back in, she lets me go at my own pace. I am getting stronger and my body looks so much better every week. Aside from the exercise classes Laurie also does 2 hour cooking classes. I think that is the thing that changed my life and helped me the most. Laurie is an amazing cook and and has the greatest tips for making flavorful healthy meals. We all cooked together and made our meals for the coming week. She showed me portion sizes and shared her favorite tips for making food that is delicious and satisfying. I followed everything she told me to do and the weight started coming off! In the past if I lost a pound or two it would come right back. Not anymore. The weight loss has been a steady constant. I also lost my cravings for binging at night on sweet and or salty junk. I enjoy the way she has taught me to eat and no longer feel like I am on a diet. I simply have completely changed the way that I eat for the better. Working out with Laurie has been the greatest experience. I tried on some of my old clothes today and they actually looked good on me. When I looked in the mirror at my reflection I didn't see a fat middle aged woman any more. I'm still in my 50's but I saw the old me that was confident and felt good about myself. I feel such gratitude. I think I will work out with Laurie for the rest of my life.

Laurie has a way of Talking you into things and I was talked all the way ( loving every minute of it) to a tiny bikini and the stage, not once, but twice and soon to be a third time. When I first started in the gym I had an injury and we worked through it, with a soup can!! I could not lift anything heavier with the one arm at that time. I trust Laurie 150%, if she says jump I say " how high". she has changed so many people's lives ( and bodies) many who have become special friends.

Laurie trained me 3 days per week and gave me a nutrition plan to get ready for the Miss California Teen USA pageant 2009. I had fun and it was challenging, but it made all the difference in how I looked on stage. I got 1st runner up at the pageant. I'm going to workout with her again this year for the same pageant, where my goal is to be the next Miss California Teen USA 2010.

When I first came to work with Laurie I was aerobically conditioned but still overweight by government charts, and my clothes weren’t fitting me. I have seen other trainers working at various clubs and gyms, so I can say from experience Laurie is the Rolls Royce of trainers, but at an affordable Toyota price. She is knowledgeable, warm and so very companionable and cheerfully positive that my weight workouts fly by. During my first three weeks under Laurie’s eating and exercise directions I lost eleven pounds and I was able to pull on my size ten Victoria’s Secret jeans. Since then I’ve continued to firm up and tone my muscles under Laurie’s guidance, and she continues to challenge me. I never liked weight training before but thanks to Laurie’s influence I find myself looking forward to it, and I can’t say enough about how rewarding it has been working with her as my trainer. I feel lucky to have found her, and doubly lucky she has time for me.

I have been working with Laurie for three months and, more than any other trainer, Laurie works to address specific areas that need toning and shaping. For the first time I am seeing and feeling a difference in my glutes, (Laurie, you can use backside, butt, etc.). Laurie is interested in designing a comprehensive fitness program that addresses nutrition as well as challenging workouts. She is upbeat and positive and our group has a great time together. I have been involved in bootcamp with Laurie since July 2010. I love it! Laurie speaks to me and really tries to understand where I am, what I want to accomplish, and what stands in my way. She cares!!!! While of course I want to succeed at accomplishing my goals for me, I also want to do it for Laurie. I have never felt that way with any other trainer. She pays attention to the whole person—helping us to eat differently by offering cooking classes, helping us to realize the importance of finding time for ourselves, and encouraging us when we get off track. So, how did I do this. First, I made the commitment to workout with Laurie 3-4 times a week for one hour. And I workout on my own 2-3 days a week, walking, running, hiking, and doing yoga. My day off usually ends up not being a day off, because I love how I feel after working out. Second I did not do it alone. Laurie has been an unwavering coach and friend, never missing a training session, never missing a moment to offer me an encouraging word, finding ways to strategize and goal set for ME, personally, and teaching me that this commitment is also about changing the way I eat on a daily basis---not dieting, but choosing a healthy nutrition plan that is simple, and easy for ME. She offers cooking classes, recipes, and strategies for incorporating these healthy choices into MY hectic work schedule. Third, I gained the support of friends and family to eat the way I do and to work out with me. If everyone around you is loafing around, not working out, and not making healthy choices about eating, it makes it much more challenging. Once you get them on board too, then EVERYONE feels better and sees results in how they think, sleep, play, and live life to the fullest. II appreciate that Laurie’s program is great for those of us well past our twenties or thirties and not in perfect shape. She is careful to ensure that the exercises are performed properly to prevent injury and always gives a moderate and harder option to do each exercise while at the same time increasing the level of exercise so this class works for multiple age groups and exercise levels. Just do it.

You see high blood presure, goute, diabeties, stroke and heart attacks run in my family. From my grandmother right on down to me. I do not want to pass this on to my son. So I have to make a change. I am scared because I am not sure how this will all end but I am glad I am going throught this with Laurie.

This bootcamp offers something for everyone of every skill level. It has helped me get back into working out which I have stopped doing for a little while. Since I have been a dancer my whole life, I have never had to work out outside of dance because that was my form of working out. Ever since I have stopped dancing, it has been hard for me to be motivated to work out because it was less enjoyable than dance, but this class is enjoyable and has helped encourage me to start working out again. It is nice that the class is offered outdoors in the fresh air. I enjoy participating with other people , it makes it more fun to work out!
